Duo appears in court for allegations of drug dealing

EASTERN CAPE – The South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) of East London Serious Organised Crime Investigation team of the Hawks in a joint operation with East London Crime Intelligence Gathering (CIG) and Technical Support Unit arrested two suspects aged 38 and 34 for allegations of dealing in drugs on 11 July 2021. The duo is expected to make its first court appearance in East London Magistrates’ Court on 13 July 2021.

The team acted on information that was received regarding a foreign national selling Tik on a large scale in the East London area. Further information was also received with regards to the alleged drug dealer being assisted by a woman who is reported to have been storing the bulk of the drugs for him.

Three successful purchases of 20 grams of Tik each at R2500 per purchase were done with the main suspect during the period between 02 July 2021 and 06 July 2021. The search to the woman’s flat in Southernwood uncovered Tik weighing 2,5kg with an estimated street value of R625 000. Both suspects were arrested on Sunday, 11 July 2021.

The joint team is commended by the Provincial Head Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya for the laborious effort in trying to create a drug free community.
