EASTERN CAPE – Dutywa Police arrested a 29-year-old man for alleged rape of a 25-year-old woman. It is alleged that the victim was from a birthday party on Friday, 14 June 2019 at about 23h40. While she was on her way home, she came across the suspect demanded her cellphone. She refused and the suspect dragged her to his house at Extension Eight, Govan Mbeki Township, Dutywa where he allegedly raped her.

She reported the case at Dutywa Police Station. The Dutywa Police wasted no time and traced the suspect. The suspect was arrested on Saturday, 15 June 2019 and has been charged with rape. He will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 18 June 2019 on a rape charge. Butterworth Cluster Police are appealing to women not to walk alone in the dark areas.
