Eastern Cape man appears in court for vehicle finance fraud

EASTERN CAPE – Nqabisile Gideon Mhluzana (45) appeared at the East London court on Tuesday for alleged R500 000 fraud following his arrest last week Saturday by the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation of the Hawks in East London.

It is alleged that on 09 February 2019, Mhluzana submitted fraudulent documents which amongst others included a payslip, letter of employment and a stamped bank statement at a car dealership in East London in order to secure a car loan. The bank approved the loan.

Towards the end of the year 2019 the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation alerted banks warning them about the activities of an alleged syndicate which was creating and submitting fraudulent documents in order to secure vehicle finance. Consequently, one of the banks come forward with information which allegedly implicated Mhluzana in this criminal activity.

The East London Magistrate court released him on a warning. Mhluzana’s matter was postponed to 08 May 2020. Source: South African Police Service
