Eastern Cape Province to launch the 2020/2021 Safer Festive Season operations

Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Mrs Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe will join the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga to launch the Eastern Cape Safer Festive Season Operations on Wednesday, 18 November 2020 in the Alfred Nzo District, Matatiele, under the theme, “tight grip”.
As a build up to the launch, SAPS members will be embarking on a series of crime prevention operations Tuesday, 17 November 2020 including the disposal of liquor confiscated during the Safer Festive Season Operations 2019/2020 across the province.
On the 19 November 2020, the MEC Tikana-Gxothiwe and SAPS Management will engage with the community of Tsitsana, Katkop where a vehicle and an Edcon Trailer will be handed over. The vehicle will augment existing fleet and the trailer will be utilised as a SAPS contact point and mobile police station aimed at bringing services closer to the communities.
The purpose of the launch is to inform the public of the SAPS’ readiness to ensure that all the people and visitors in our Province will be able to enjoy the upcoming festive period and need not to fear the callous acts of criminals as we will be on full alert to curb these types of incidents.
The safer festive season campaign is aimed at ensuring that specific interventions are put in place in order to ensure a safe and secure South Africa that is conducive for social and economic stability, supporting a better life for all.
During this period, members of the SAPS will be working around the clock conducting operations across the province focusing on increased visibility of police officers at shopping centres and other public areas. There will also be operation and patrols conducted at all the province’s ports of entry to keep an eye on the increased movement of people going through the country’s borders.
