Employees nabbed following business robbery at Ngqamakwe Post Office

ZWELITSHA – The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Andre Swart in the Eastern Cape has expressed his appreciation for the sterling work and swift arrest made by the members of Organized Crime Unit after business robbery that took place at Ngqamakwe Post Office on Saturday, 04 January 2020.

According to the reports, two armed unidentified male suspects allegedly entered the Ngqamakwe Post Office at about 8:15 in the morning of Saturday, 04 January 2020. They ordered the cleaner and teller who was busy preparing the money for the day to be silent. They then took away an undisclosed large amount of money, leaving a cleaner and teller locked in the office.

Preliminary investigation by members from Organized Crime unit led to the arrest of four (4) suspects, aged between 31 to 51, two of which are employees at the Post Office. The alleged owner of the getaway motor vehicle was among the arrested suspects together with his son, after some money was recovered from his home. The suspects were arrested on Sunday, 05 January 2020, and are expected to appear in Butterworth Magistrate soon on charges relating to a Business Robbery.

Major General Swart expressed his appreciation at the work of the detectives and all other role players involved in the breakthrough. Serious action must be taken against those who constantly rob our communities of these essential service and the law must take its course, Major General Swart concluded.
