Pretoria: The Department of Employment and Labour in Mpumalanga is set to host a crucial work seeker registration drive throughout the City of Mbombela Local Municipality from 13 to 20 August 2026. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between unemployed South Africans and potential job opportunities, providing a platform for both new and existing work seekers to enhance their employability.
According to South African Government News Agency, the campaign will focus on enrolling new work seekers onto the Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) system while encouraging those already registered to update their profiles. This process aims to better align job seekers with available opportunities by ensuring their qualifications and skills are accurately reflected in the national database.
The registration drive is particularly targeted at individuals with experience in technical fields and various specialized trades. Opportunities are available for those skilled in banana ripening and cold store operations, IT, waste management, forklift, rocker bin, and cherry picker operations, as well as consignment and product control. There is also a demand for expertise in marketing, finance, procurement, electrical, and plumbing trades.
The registration sessions will be held at various locations across Mbombela. The first session will be on Thursday, 13 August at Phumlani, followed by Mathafini Old Wood House on Friday, 14 August. On Monday, 17 August, the drive will continue at Mathafini Eskomo at Mbombela Stadium, then move to Msholozi on Tuesday, 18 August. The sessions will proceed at KaMagugu on Wednesday, 19 August and will conclude at Brondal on Thursday, 20 August. Each session will operate from 09:30 to 14:30.
Work seekers attending the sessions are required to bring essential documents, including a comprehensive CV with contact details, qualifications, Grade 12 subjects passed, work experience, and references. Proof of residence should also be presented. The Department emphasizes that registering on the ESSA system is a strategic step towards strengthening access to employment by facilitating better matching of job seekers with potential opportunities.
