Festive Season Operation resulted in arrest of five suspects with firearms

High level police visibility in the John Taolo Gaetsewe Cluster continued to close the net on criminal activities in the cluster. Five suspects were arrested in separate incidents, subsequent to be found in possession of unlicensed firearms.

On Friday, 11 January evening the Tactical Response Team (TRT) arrested three suspects with firearms which were reported stolen in Ganyesa last year. It is alleged that the firearms including rifles were stolen during a house business burglary. The suspects led the police to a house in Mapoteng, where two rifles were hidden. Upon search and investigation in the house, two rifles were found hidden in the ceiling.

In a separate incident, while TRT Members were conducting stop and searches in Magojaneng, two male person were spotted sitting on a corner in the street. During a body search on one of the suspect, a pistol was found in his possession, and ammunition was found on the other suspect.

All suspects were charged with illegal possession of firearms. They are expected to appear before Kuruman and Mothibistad Magistrates’ on Monday, 14 January 2019. The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Risimati Shivuri commended members for displaying braveness and unwavering crime fighting spirit, by conducting crime prevention to ensure that community members are safe at all times.
