Film Cape Town emerging filmmaker’s showcase at FAME Week Africa

The City of Cape Town, through Film Cape Town, is partnering with AFDA, UCT’s Centre for Film and Media Studies and the Free Film School to host an emerging filmmakers film showcase as part of FAME WEEK Africa taking place at the CTICC 2 from today.

The City of Cape Town’s exhibition space at FAME Week Africa has been transformed into a film theatre and a mini art gallery.

For the three days of the event, from 24 to 26 August 2022, the space will screen short films, silent films and documentaries by emerging filmmakers from some of our local film institutions.

‘Film Cape Town was established in part to provide as many opportunities for Cape Town’s diverse talent pool including actors, crew and producers among others. This showcase aims to provide a platform for these filmmakers for their work to be seen by potential employers or investors who are attending FAME Week Africa over the next three days. We hope that this showcase will provide a stepping stone for these filmmakers in their long careers as they also get the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s top creative leaders,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith.

The Film Cape Town showcase will screen 15 films each day from students and graduates from AFDA, UCT and the Free Film School (based at the Bertha House in Mowbray).

Film Cape Town is also facilitating for emerging filmmakers to attend workshops, masterclasses and panel discussions by industry experts.

They will also get the opportunity to network and attend content sessions where they share ideas and market their projects.

In the exhibition space, the City’s Emerging Artists Programme will also display the artwork by six developing artists.

The Emerging Artists Programme helps under-resourced, emerging artists based in Cape Town, to access opportunities that will help promote their work and develop their profession.
