Fire crackers worth thousands of rands seized from illegal dealer in Eersterust

Police in Eesterust this morning, 30 December 2019 confiscated fire crackers with an estimated value of R100 000, 00 following numerous complaints about a shop selling firecrackers to children as young as seven-years-old. On arrival at the shop in question, police found fire crackers displayed next to flammable items and not properly stored as per legal requirements. Investigation revealed that the owner did not possess a license to trade in fire crackers, hence the confiscation and fine for selling fire crackers without a permit.

The police will over this period of New Year celebrations, continue to clamp down on all illegal sellers of fire crackers. Those with permits but found to be in contravention of the terms of the licence, will also be dealt with decisively.
