Firearm and ammunition recovered, suspect arrested in Nyanga

WESTERN CAPE – Concerted efforts to eradicate the proliferation of illegal firearms in the Nyanga precinct resulted in the recovery of an illegal firearm and ammunition and the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect.

On Friday, 05 July 2019, members attached to Nyanga Crime Prevention acted on information about a firearm that was said to be hidden at a spaza shop in Browns Farm. At the shop the members found the firearm hidden in the inside of the door. A magazine as well as 46 rounds were also found and seized.

The suspect was arrested and detained. He is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate Court on Monday, 08 July 2019 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
