Firearm and drugs recovered during operations

PORT ELIZABETH – Intelligence led operations held last night, 04 April 2019 between 21:00 and 23:00 in the Northern areas, resulted in the confiscation of a firearm and drugs.

At about 21:30, members of National Intervention Unit (NIU), Public Order Policing (POP) and Tactical Response Team (TRT) executed search warrants at 2 houses in Helenvale and Shauderville respectively. At a house in Voissen Street, a small amount of dagga was seized and no arrests effected.

At a house in Glendenning Street in Shauderville, a 9mm Lugar firearm with magazine and 11 rounds of ammunition, 86 mandrax tablets, 48 rolls of dagga and a small amount of tik was seized. The estimated street value of the drugs is R10 000. As police were breaching the property, the suspect saw them and ran away.

In a separate incident, on 04 April 2019 at about 19:15, a member from PE Flying Squad, W/O Severiano Blundin was off duty and on his way home, when he received information that a possible wanted suspect was seen walking in Dahlia Street in Malabar. The member immediately reacted to the information and the 24 year old suspect was apprehended. A motor vehicle was stolen in Kabega Park in March 2019. The member also found the stolen motor vehicle’s keys in his pocket. The suspect was detained on a charge of theft of motor vehicle and is expected to appear in court on Monday, 08 April 2019.
