Firearm recovered immediately after shootings

Our endeavors to fight crime which may threaten the safety and security of the community yielded success yesterday when crime operations were conducted by Ocean View SAPS members after two people had been shot at around 05:45 and at 07:00.

Visible policing and stop and search operations were immediately conducted after two shooting incidents in Ocean View area. Members were patrolling the Ocean View area looking for the suspects in connection with the shootings when they received information from a community member that one of the suspects had hidden a firearm somewhere outside Sylvia Court. The information further stated that the police had to act swiftly, otherwise the firearm would be moved.

Members reacted on the information and went to Sylvia Court searched the area and found a firearm containing one round of ammunition between the dirt bins.

Investigations still continues in the two shooting incidents. Our detectives are following up on all leads in an effort to solve these cases. The actions of the members ensured that another illegal firearm and ammunition were removed from the community. The community is requested to contact Ocean View SAPS on 021 783 8300 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 with any information on crime in the area.
