Firearm seized and suspects arrested: Port Elizabeth

EASTERN CAPE – While conducting disruptive operations in Motherwell, alert Anti-Gang Unit and Metro police members arrested 4 suspects aged between 23 and 30 in Mkhombo Street, NU1.

It is alleged that on 01 August 2019 at about 01:30, police noticed a white Datsun Go with 4 male occupants parked near a premises they were searching. The vehicle was tactfully approached and stopped. On searching the vehicle, a 9mm Norinco firearm was found behind the driver’s seat. The vehicle was allegedly hijacked in Humewood in July. The firearm was not reported stolen. A replica firearm was also confiscated.

Detectives are busy profiling these suspects to establish whether they can be linked to other cases in the Metro. They are detained on a charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle as well as illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The confiscated firearm will be sent to ballistics for analysis.
