Firearms and ammunition confiscated, suspects arrested in Bellville and Khayelitsha

A 42-year-old man from Bellville was arrested in Bellville in the early hours of Thursday morning after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The arrest was made 2021-04-29 at approximately 00:45 on Old Paarl Road, Bellville during a vehicles checkpoint which was conducted by members of Bellville SAPS.

According to reports a silver Honda Brio was stopped by the members at the checkpoint and searched. One of the members saw a face cloth at the driver’s side door covering an object. Upon closer inspection it was found to be a pistol containing ten rounds.

The driver of the vehicle could not produce any form of firearm licence or permit. He was arrested and detained at Bellville SAPS for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were handed in as evidence.

The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court once charged.

In an unrelated matter, members attached to the Provincial Integrated Team were busy with patrols in Leiden, Delft on Wednesday, at about 22:30 when they received information about illegal firearms and drugs in Site B, Khayelitsha.

The members followed up on the information and on their arrival at Y Section, Site B, Khayelitsha they searched a house as per information received and found an illegal firearm colour with serial number filed off.

A 42-year-old male was arrested and detained at Khayelitsha SAPS.

The members followed up on further information at U Section, Site B, Khayelitsha at about 23: 30. On their arrival at the address they searched the house and found a firearm with eight 9mm rounds. A 57-year-old man was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm. The suspect is detained at Khayelitsha SAPS.

All suspects will appear in court once charged.
