Firearms seized at security company, suspect in custody

Chatsworth: Police officers from Firearms Liquor and Second Hand dealers in the province with Chatsworth police conducted an intelligence driven operation yesterday at a security company in Crossmoor. The operation led to the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect and seizure of firearms.

The security company was operating in contravention with the Firearms Control Act. Three firearms, two magazines, police scanner and a number of rounds of ammunition were confiscated. The suspect will be charged for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, contravention of the Firearms Control Act as well as the Electronic Communications Act. He will appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 December 2018.

An appeal is made to security companies to act within the ambits of the law. Police have intensified their operations with regular inspections being conducted to ensure compliance. Failure to comply with the Firearms Control Act will result in the arrest of perpetrators.
