Five suspects arrested for hijacking and possession of hijacked motor vehicle parts

Tshwane West Cluster: Five suspects were arrested for hijacking and possession of motor vehicle parts after a car was hijacked at Atteridgeville on Friday, 11 February 2018 and the vehicle was recovered in Pretoria West on Wednesday, 21 February 2018.

A 37 year old man was driving his Hyundai Grand I 10 at Atteridgeville on Friday, when he stopped at his gate to open it. Three men armed with firearms approached him and was forced into the back seat. They drove with him around and afterwards dropped him at Semenya Street, robbing him of his R200 cash and a cellphone before they sped off with his vehicle. The case of hijacking was reported at Atteridgeville police station for further investigations.

Through intensive investigation by Tshwane West Trio Task Team, three suspects aged 19, 22 and 26 were arrested on Monday, 21 February 2018.

Further information led to the recovery of the motor vehicle at Pretoria West scrap yard, whereby the vehicle was chopped into parts. Two owners of the scrapyard were arrested for possession of stolen motor vehicle. Investigation is still continuing.

The suspects will appear in the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court soon.

The Tshwane West Cluster Commander Major General Tommy Mthombeni applauded the team for their sterling investigation and speedy breakthrough of a trio crime.
