Five suspects arrested for possession of prohibited fierarms and ammunition by members attached to Operation Lockdown II

CAPE TOWN – On Tuesday evening, 11 May 2021, members attached to Operation Lockdown ll were deployed in Mfuleni area doing crime prevention and visible policing duties, when they noticed a black BMW driving recklessly skipping a red light. They immediately pursued the vehicle and when it stopped at a petrol station at London Way, Malibu Village, they approached it and requested the occupants to exit the vehicle. The occupants and the vehicle were searched and the members found two firearms of which the serial numbers were removed and 21x 9 mm rounds of ammunition.

A total of five suspects aged between 21 and 43 were arrested and detained on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition. They will appear in court once charged.
