WESTERN CAPE – On Sunday morning, members of the Maitland Flying Squad followed information about suspects involved in a business robbery in Langa today. Members spotted a vehicle fitting the description of the suspects’ getaway car in the Gugulethu area. Upon seeing the police, the suspects sped off at high speed. A chase ensued, resulting in the vehicle being pulled over and searched. Three unlicensed firearms and 14 rounds of ammunition were discovered.

Preliminary investigations reveal that one of the firearms was reported as stolen in a Bothasig case.

Three suspects aged between 29 and 47 were arrested on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition as well as possession of two unlicensed firearms. The suspects are also facing a charge of robbing a business in Langa. They will appear in Wynberg court on Tuesday morning.

In an unrelated matter, Stellenbosch community apprehended a 25-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm. It is believed that the suspects were on their way to rob a shop in Khayamnandi when they were stopped in their tracks by the community. The suspect was handed over to the police.

In Bishop Lavis, partnership policing led to the arrest of a murder suspect. According to information, the community of Montana spotted a wanted suspect who was allegedly involved in a hijacking and murder that occurred in Bishop Lavis. They apprehended the suspect and handed him to the police.

The Western Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thembisile Patekile applauded the community for their involvement in the fight against crime. He also commended the members for ensuring that unlicensed firearms are removed from the streets.
