Former Hawks member found guilty of theft

NORTH WEST � Warrant officer Lucas Mosoane (39) who was stationed at the Hawks’ TlhabaneOrganised Crime unit was on 24 October 2018 sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for theft, at the Tlhabane magistrates’ court.

Mosoane and his colleagues were conducting a disruptive operation and searching for drugs at a house in Phokeng on 21 April 2017. During the search, the accused was spotted by one of his colleagues putting money in his pocket. He had taken R3700 from a drawer in the house. The accused was immediately arrested.

He made his first appearance at the Tlhabane magistrate’s court on 23 April 2018. He was released on R1000 bail and continued to make a series of court appearances until ultimately being sentenced today.

Internal disciplinary steps were taken against him and he was subsequently dismissed in 2017.

The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation � Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya applauded the investigators that effected an arrest on one of their own. Our simple message is that law enforcement officers must combat crime and not commit it. We shall not hesitate to visit those who fall into temptation of committing any crime. He said.
