Four alleged drug peddlers appear in court

POTCHEFSTROOM – Four accused were yesterday remanded in custody upon appearance in the Christiana Magistrates’ Court for possession of drugs.

Ayanda Khumalo, 29, Mphakameseni Mvelese, 27, Bongani Mbatha, 33, Nkosinathi Madonsela, 43, appeared in court after being arrested on Monday, 27 April 2020 in Christiana. It is alleged that the accused’s vehicle, a Nissan NP200, was stopped at about 11:30 during a vehicle checkpoint along the Christiana-Jan Kempdorp road for a search. During the search, the police found 21 plastic bags containing dagga in the bakkie. The suspects who are from KwaZulu-Natal were on the way to Jan Kempdorp.

The accused who are also facing charges relating to contravention of Regulation 11B (1)(a)(i); failure to confine to their residential places and 11B(1)(a)(iii); movement between provinces, are expected to reappear in court on Tuesday, 05 May 2020.     .

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena applauded members for their vigilance that led to the arrest and confiscation of dagga. He said that the police will continue to deal effectively with alleged drug traffickers and anyone who undermines the authority of the State
