Four rifles recovered, suspects to appear in court

DURBAN: The Multidistrict Task Team operations continue to yield positive results by putting criminals behind bars and recovering illegal firearms and ammunition. In the early hours of this morning the team proceeded to Section Seven in Madadeni and arrested four suspects.
Three suspects were arrested and charged for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, while the other suspect was charged for being in possession of ammunition. The suspects aged between 28 and 43 were found in possession of three 303 rifles and 94 rounds of ammunition. They were questioned about the firearms and ammunition but failed to provide proof of ownership and were arrested and detained at Madadeni. They are appearing before the Madadeni Magistrates’ Court today.
The fourth 303 rifle was found abandoned in Muden and the suspect was nowhere to be seen. The operation is continuing and more arrest and recoveries are expected.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani Gonya welcomed the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the unlicensed firearms. “We are cleaning up the province and we would like to send a strong message to those who are in unlawful possession of firearms that we will be coming for them next,” he said
