Four suspects apprehended for business robbery in Uitenhage

In a concerted effort, by the police in Uitenhage, to effectively deal with serious and violent crimes such as business robberies, effective and efficient deployment of resources yielded positive results.

Members from SAPS Uitenhage were busy patrolling Caledon Street, Uitenhage when they noticed a commotion outside a business premises at about 21:10, last night, Saturday, 24 March 2018. Police officials acted promptly and effectively after community members informed the police officials that the suspect was allegedly involved in a business robbery a few minutes ago. Police members arrested the suspect and confiscated a toy gun that was found in his possession after investigations revealed that four male suspects, who posed as clients, robbed a business with the toy gun at 21:00, 24 March 2018. The suspects took cigarettes, a cellphone and cooldrinks and fled from the scene on foot. Further information was followed up and members apprehended three more suspects, for the business robbery later the same evening. The four male suspects are between 18 and 39-years-old. Police recovered some of the stolen property. The four male suspects are due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s court on a charge of business robbery on Tuesday, 27 March 2018.

The acting Uitenhage Station Commander, Colonel Andre Swart thanked the community for assisting the SAPS in apprehending one of the suspects and commended the police officials for the swift arrest of the other three suspects.
