Four suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs

CAPE TOWN – A focused approach by the Western Cape police to eradicate unlicensed firearms and drugs from the communities continue to yield good results.

Members attached to Ocean View were patrolling in Masiphumelele yesterday afternoon when they were alerted to at a robbery that was taking place at a shop. The members acted promptly and apprehended the suspect, he was found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in his possession. The 34-year-old suspect will appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.

In an unrelated matter, on Monday night, members from Provincial Integrated Team (PIT) were patrolling in Verlore Vlei Street, Leiden in Delft when they stopped and searched a man, they found dagga in his possession. A 22-year-old man was arrested.

Meanwhile in Wesbank, Mfuleni, the same PIT members arrested two men aged 30 and 40 for possession of drugs. The suspects were driving in a vehicle that failed to stop at a red robot in Main Road near the taxi rank, when the driver saw the police. The members pursued the vehicle and a search was conducted, drugs were found as well as cash.

All four suspects will appear in the various courts once they have been charged.
