Four suspects arrested in East London

Four male suspect between the ages of 19 and 41 were arrested in the early hours of today.

East London K9 member received information of a truck that was loading copper and aluminium cables at St Paul’s Road. He contacted a member of East London Police Station that is working with the second hand shops and scrap metals. They followed the information and the truck that was utilized to commit crime and stopped it at Beaconsfield Road.

The members went back to the scrap yard with the driver of the truck where they found the owner and other three other males. Different cables was found at the scrap yard and confiscated. The estimated value of the cables is R125 000 and the replacement estimated value is over a million rand.

A case of possession of suspected stolen property and Criminal Matters Amendment Act 18 of 2015 has been opened. All four suspects will appear in the East London Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, 13 April 2021.
