FPB Blocks Film ‘Hebrews to Negroes’ Over Incitement and Antisemitic Content

Pretoria:The Film and Publication Board (FPB) has refused to classify the film titled "Hebrews to Negroes Wake Up Black America" for broadcasting and distribution in South Africa. The decision was made due to the film's content, which was found to advocate hatred based on identifiable group characteristics and incite harm through Holocaust denial, dehumanization, and the promotion of antisemitic views.

According to South African Government News Agency, the FPB stated that the film incites hatred and spreads dangerous misinformation, lacking the objective and informed perspective required for a bona fide documentary. The film's denial of the Holocaust was specifically mentioned as a failure to meet the criteria for historical accuracy.

The FPB warned that any individual who broadcasts, distributes, exhibits, offers for sale or hire, or advertises the film will be committing an offence. Convicted offenders could face a fine up to R500 000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.

The film was criticized for its denial of the Holocaust, describing it as a "falsehood," which the FPB identified as a direct advocacy of hatred that trivializes suffering and perpetuates antisemitism. The film also includes dehumanizing language, comparing Jews to "parasites among the nations," and promotes antisemitic tropes by alleging major falsehoods about Jewish "nature" and power. Additionally, the use of racial slurs such as "Negro," "Kaffir," and "Coolie" was deemed as constituting hate speech.
