FPB Encourages Safe Online Practices During Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Tunis:The Film and Publications Board (FPB) has called on individuals to adopt safe online habits to guard against cyber threats. This appeal comes as South Africa participates in the global observance of Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October.

According to South African Government News Agency, the campaign is themed 'Don't Make It Easy for Them,' aiming to enhance digital safety and protect personal data. The FPB highlighted that online safety is a necessary skill for everyone, akin to basic safety practices like looking both ways before crossing the street.

The FPB provided several practical tips for maintaining online security. They advised treating passwords like personal items such as toothbrushes—unique and not shared across accounts. They also suggested using password manager apps to securely store multiple passwords. Enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on email and banking apps was recommended as an effective measure to prevent unauthorized access, even if passwords are compromised.

The FPB warned about increasingly sophisticated online scams and advised caution when clicking links in suspicious messages. Verifying the sender's email address and visiting official websites directly were recommended strategies to avoid falling victim to scams. Regularly updating devices was emphasized, as updates often contain critical security patches that protect against cyberattacks.

By following these straightforward steps, the FPB believes individuals can contribute to a safer internet environment for themselves and others.
