The French government and African leaders have resolved to deal with the causes of conflict and instability on the continent at their summit in Bamako, Mali, over the weekend.

Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Harry Kalaba, who represented President Edgar Lungu at the 27th France-Africa Summit, says the leaders have acknowledged that conflict resolution is not enough to end wars in Africa.

Kalaba says the leaders also noted that conflicts have continued to consumer huge amounts of resources which could otherwise be used for economic and development projects.

He says Zambia is particularly happy that the continent is speaking with one voice over the concerns raised by the AU Commission for Peace and Security (AU-PSC), of which Zambia is a member.

Kalaba told ZNBC News in Bamakoi that the summit was successful and had helped clear the notion of division between the English- and French-speaking countries of Africa.

He said the summit also called for collective action against trafficking networks, particularly the trafficking of human beings, migrants and drugs, in order to dry up all forms of illicit financing of terrorism.

On economy and development, the leaders re-affirmed their commitment to enhance efforts to eradicate poverty and promote inclusive and diverse growth.
