Galeshewe man sentenced for rape of two women

NORTHERN CAPE – The SAPS welcomes the rape sentences that was handed down to a Galeshewe man, recently.

On 13 June 2016 at about 01:00, Norman Benedict Moreki (29) accosted an 18-year-old female near Buiteman Street in Galeshewe. He was wearing a balaclava when he threatened and stabbed her in the right hand. He raped her and robbed her of her cellphone in a nearby veld.

On 14 January 2018 at approximately 06:00, Moreki struck again and raped another 18-year-old female in a veld near Club 2000 in Galeshewe. Police followed up on information and Moreki was positively linked with his DNA.

He was arrested 26 September 2018 and remained in custody up until his sentencing. The accused was also found guilty on a theft out of motor vehicle he committed in Kagisho during June 2018.

On 1 April 2021 Moreki was sentenced in the Galeshewe Magistrates Court as follows:

Count 1: Rape – 10 years

Count 2: Robbery – 4 years

Count 3: Rape – 10 years

Count 4: Theft out of motor vehicle – 2 years.

Count 2 and 4 will run concurrently.
