Gauteng Legislature hosts seminar on Public Confidence in State Institutions, 22 to 23 Mar

Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s OCPOL hosts seminar on Public Confidence in State Institutions in South Africa and The Changing Face of Social Movements.

Led by Chairperson, Hon. Godfrey Tsotetsi, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s (GPL) Oversight Committee on the Premier’s Office and the Legislature (OCPOL) will host a seminar from Thursday 22 � Friday 23 March 2018 under the theme: Public confidence in state institutions and the changing face of social movements: are oversight institutions in South Africa failing the public?

The seminar aims to attract participants from all Legislatures across the country, state institutions and academic institutions; and will feature insightful presentations from governance experts, public participation in governance, oversight and social movements.

The seminar will mainly be driven by the presence of policy advisors and practitioners who will provide informative and research based discussions. Government Departments and municipalities that have similar Committees such as OCPOL will also be in attendance, as well as the Gauteng Office of the Premier.

The seminar aims to deepen the understanding of public institutions and their functioning, and assess public confidence in this regard. Discussions will also include the role of oversight institutions � how the public perceives oversight institutions and how these can be strengthened.

Oversight Committee on the Premier & the Legislature (OCPOL) scrutinises and conducts oversight on the Budget, Quarterly and Annual reports of the Office of the Premier (OoP) and the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL). The Standing Committee analyses activities of the GPL to determine whether the Institution fulfils its Constitutional mandate and supports Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) in the exercising their functions and performing their duties.
