Gauteng Legislature launches Men’s Month campaign in Mohlakeng, 6 Jul

Gauteng Legislature men in conversation with men living in hostels

On Friday, 6th July 2018 Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) will visit hostels in Mohlakeng to launch its Men’s Month Campaign dubbed Asikhulume njengamadoda- a call to action for GPL men to engage fellow men on challenges facing them, their families and society at large. The campaign is an initiative of the GPL’s Men’s Forum, which was established in 2017 to tackle challenges facing the modern man in the home, work and society at large.

The main objective of the Forum is to benefit and empower GPL’s male employees, as well as contribute in making sure that there are better men in the society who can lead by example.

Since the National inception of Men’s month in 2011 different sectors have continued to observe July as Men’s Month. GPL is therefore following the national example in continuing with its Men’s forum and defining its existence since 06 July 2017. The forum recognises men as critical partners and role players in advocating gender equality.

This month also starts a discourse with men and women about gender relations and what it means to be a responsible man. Tomorrow will mark the activation of Men’s Month activities, which include Boys Town Revisit Baviaanspoort on 12th July; and Female Johannesburg Correctional Centre Visit on 27th July. GPL visited the Baviaanspoort Juvenile Prison last year as part of its Men’s Month Programme and engaged with the boys at the facility.
