Gauteng MECs prepare for the State of the Province Address

Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, will deliver his second State of the Province Address (SOPA) for the sixth administration on Tuesday, 25 February 2020). The SOPA will take place at Sefako Makgatho University in Garankuwa, Tshwane, from 10am.

As part of the pre-SOPA build-up activities, Members of the Executive Council are rolling up their sleeves ahead of the opening of the Gauteng legislature. The economic cluster MECs will implement various programmes in the MAWIGA area (Mabopane, Winterveldt, Garankuwa and Soshonguve).

Infrastructure Development MEC Tasneem Motara will be visiting infrastructure projects in the area.

On Tuesday, 18 February, she visited Rearabilwe Child and Youth Care Centre construction site. The centre would be completed in April 2020. She then went to three other sites around Tshwane, including Mapenane Seconday School, Odi hospital in Mabopane and Laerskool Kameelfontein in Roodeeplaat.

“Mapenane school will have restorative repairs of existing classrooms and construction of new admin block, two classroom blocks, science lab, library, nutrition block, guard house, refuse yard, and two ablution blocks,” said MEC Motara.

The day-long programme ended at Laerskool Kameelfontein where the department will repair the roofing, gutters, electrical work, floors, painting, replacement of the panels for the school and construction of the guardhouse. This project started in April last year, completion date is March 2020.

In an effort to mobilising the community in the lead up to Premier Makhura’s address, MEC for Finance, Nomantu Nkomo Ralehoko will engage with small businesses in the MAWIGA area about the Central Supplier Database, e-Invoicing and assess progress in rolling out of the Gauteng Broadbank Network.

Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure will conduct a pre SOPA roadshow to consult stakeholders on transport related matters.

According to the department, he will use the visit to assess repair work on Molefe Makinta and Peter Mogano streets and he will visit Mabopane on Thursday, 20 February 2020.
