Gauteng police arrest 780 suspects during crime combatting operations over the weekend

Multi-disciplinary crime combatting operations in Gauteng have resulted in the arrest of more than seven hundred and eighty (780) suspects over the weekend.

Out of those arrested over the weekend, two hundred and seventy (270) suspects were arrested in Tshwane District for crimes ranging from dealing in drugs, rape, truck hijacking, possession of suspected stolen vehicle, dealing in dagga, driving under the influence of alcohol assault and sixty cell phones were confiscated. In Johannesburg District eighty four (84) suspects were nabbed by the police for committing crimes such as business burglary, possession of suspected stolen property, robbery, kidnapping and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The intelligence-driven joint operations also yielded results in Ekurhuleni District where more than two hundred and eighty (280) suspects were arrested for various crime such as assault, robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of drugs, rape and suspected stolen property.

Meanwhile in West Rand police also conducted operations where more than hundred and thirty (130) suspects were arrested for armed robbery, business robbery, house breaking, driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of drugs, assault and rape.

Furthermore Sedibeng police conducted the operation which resulted into the arrest of more hundred and thirty one suspects for various crimes ranging from theft possession of suspected stolen property, murder rape hijacking and other crimes.

Police will continue to conduct the operation to strong warning and follow to those criminals who hiding within our community and think they are untouchable. Police visibility will still be intensified at hotspots to protect the community of Gauteng. .

All the arrested suspects will appear in our various courts in Gauteng soon.
