PARKTOWN – Police believe they have made a breakthrough in the investigation of a spate of robberies at Kutumela Molefi Primary School in Silverton. This comes after police arrested two suspects who are both employees of the school after they were found in possession of suspected stolen property.

The school has recently been hit by robberies that have compromised the safety of the learners. Essential items were stolen such as kitchen equipment and electronic devises meant to enhance learning.

In the continued strife by law enforcement agencies to prioritise and enhance safety at schools, Police Minister Mr Bheki Cele together with Gauteng MECs for Community Safety and Education, MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane and MEC Panyaza Lesufi, on 11 April 2019 visited the school after reports of crime at the school.

A high level investigation overseen by the Tshwane District Commissioner, Major General DT Mthombeni, was launched and is now yielding positive results.

Crimes at schools are afforded priority attention in line with the South African Police Service’s commitment to prioritise cases against women, children and other vulnerable groups.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Garankuwa Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29 April 2019.
