Gauteng police official found guilty for corruption

LIMPOPO – Warrant Officer Nilos Butifana Maholobela (57) was found guilty for corruption by the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 21 May 2021.

Maholobela who was stationed at SAPS-Dobsonville detectives was caught by Tzaneen Traffic official driving his private vehicle in Tzaneen area without his seat belt fastened.

As obliged by the law, the official issued summons against the accused for contravening the Road Traffic Act.

Instead of paying a fine, the accused decided to retaliate by pinning a case of culpable homicide he was investigating on the traffic official who issued the summons against him. He also demanded R10 000-00 gratification in order to make the docket disappear.

The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation who conducted a thorough investigation that resulted in the arrest of the accused.

The matter against Maholobela was postponed to 4 June 2021 for sentencing.
