Gauteng Provincial Commissioner commends detectives across the province for their unwavering dedication in securing lengthy sentences in court

PARKTOWN – The South African Police Service (SAPS) remains resolute in the prevention, combatting and investigation of serious and violent crime in the province. It is on this basis that Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended detectives for continuously securing lengthy sentences in courts across the province.

Over the past two weeks (16 to 30 September 2022), detectives from various stations and provincial units have collectively secured 15 life imprisonment terms with over 900 years in prison for 73 accused in 74 separate cases. The charges in these cases include, among others, murder; rape; robbery with aggravated circumstances; housebreaking; house and business robbery as well as Contravention of the Immigration Act (Act No 3 of 2002).

“It is commendable how our detectives are week after week securing lengthy sentences in court. Quality investigation and commitment by our members to ensure justice prevails will restore the communities’ faith in the South African Police Service,” said Lieutenant General Mawela.
