Gauteng Roads and Transport condemns NANDUWE’s blockading of Simmonds Street

The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport condemns the Nancefield-Dube West Taxi Association’s (NANDUWE) blockading of Simmonds Street in the Johannesburg CBD today.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, said their actions were most unfortunate and entirely unwarranted given that he and his Departmental officials have in recent weeks engaged with the Executive Committee of Nanduwe in resolving their routes’ dispute with the Witwatersrand African Taxi Association (WATA).

Vadi said that this kind of lawlessness in the taxi industry will not be tolerated under any circumstances and called on the association to allow due processes to unfold.

The department remains committed to implementing the mutually agreed to Section 79 hearings as per the Court Order within the specified period, and appeals to Nanduwe to respect the agreement reached with the department, Vadi said.
