Government activities for the week, 18 to 24 Jun

Government has scheduled the following briefings/activities for the week 18 – 24 June 2018. The activities, which are aligned to the National Development Plan and outlined in the Medium Term Strategic Framework 2014-2019, are undertaken to build a better South Africa.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Barbara Thomson, will on Monday, 18th June host a national imbizo and handover school uniforms to indigent learners as part of the Youth Month celebration in Msunduzi Municipality, Pietermaritzburg.

On Monday, 18th June, the Deputy Minister of International Relations, Luwellyn Landers, will address the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) Speaker’s Meeting at the SAIIA Head Office, Wits University in Johannesburg. The meeting will focus on BRICS in Africa: Working towards the realisation of the African Aspirations.

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana, will from Tuesday 19th to 22nd June, host a BRICS delegation at the Protea Hotel Kruger Gate in Mpumalanga. The seminar is aimed at promoting cooperation among BRICS countries to address climate change with a focus on climate smart actions and approaches to reduce greenhouse gas emissions , improving efficiencies, enhancing resilience of agricultural and food production systems, and ensuring food security.

The President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa will on Thursday, 21st June, launch the Indlulamithi South African Scenarios 2030 at the Kyalami Theatre. The Indlulamithi South African Scenarios 2030 is an independent project which considers, amongst others, the economy, work and society, environmental justice, reconciliation and redress, and crime and safety.

On the 22nd June 2018, the Deputy Minister of Communications, Ms Pinky Kekana will engage communities face-to-face at Msukaligwa Council Chamber, in Ermelo. The Deputy Minister will also feature on Ligwalagwala FM, Lekwa FM and Voice of the Community FM. This event will inform South Africans about the benefits of digital migration and how this process will promote the socioeconomic development of the country. This is a build-up event to the Youth Walk into Economic Opportunities Outreach Friday.

SITA together with government and private sector stakeholders will on 22nd June, launch the NDP2030 hackathon at Sheraton Hotel, Pretoria. The NDP2030 hackathon will bring together over a thousand participants from all sectors and backgrounds to a single location where they can connect, collaborate and deliver. The goal is turning ideas into viable technology solutions that accelerate the delivery of public service.

The Deputy Ministers of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Communications, Economic Development, Justice and Correctional Services, Labour, Police, Rural Development and Land Reform, Small Business Development and Trade and Industry will, on Saturday 23rd June, conduct a Youth Walk into Economic Opportunities – community outreach programme in Ermelo, Mpumalanga. The programme is planned as part of the Nelson Mandela Centenary celebrations and is inspired by the ‘Long Walk to Freedom.’ This will incorporate a 3km walk which leads into an economic opportunities exhibition centre.
