Mauritius and South Africa will further collaborate in enhancing cooperation ties with regard to the ocean economy sector in addition to initiatives to deepen the friendly longstanding relations between the two countries.
This was the focus of discussions during a courtesy call paid by the High Commissioner of South Africa, Dr Nomvuyo Nokwe, on the Prime Minister, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, this morning at the Treasury Building in Port Louis.
In a statement, after the meeting, Dr Nomvuyo Nokwe, expressed South Africa’s interest to work together with the Mauritian authorities in the field of the blue economy, owing to the fact that, both countries have a similar vision to further develop this sector.
The joint venture in the ocean economy sector, she said, is in line with the implementation of Operation Phakisa led by the Department of Environmental Affairs, of South Africa, with focus on four priority sectors namely: marine transport and manufacturing, offshore oil and gas exploration, aquaculture, and marine protection services and governance.
Dr Nomvuyo Nokwe also spoke on exchange programmes and in creating the right synergies in the education field so as to extend the same facilities that are being given to South African students to Mauritians. This, with a view to enhance people to people relationship, she added.
