Gqeberha K9 unit continue in their efforts in clamping down on criminals targeting vehicles within Humewood policing precinct.
On Wednesday 25 January 2023 at approximately 08:25 they received and followed up on information of suspects jumping over the fence into a premises in Forest Hill. It is alleged that these criminals concentrate on stealing vehicle parts. On arrival the members realised that the suspects were inside the premises of the police garage. They were warned to come out and after failing to do so, K9 Tarrik was released to search for the suspects. He apprehended one suspect who was hiding under a vehicle. The suspect (26) was arrested on charges of malicious damage to property, attempted theft from motor vehicle and trespassing. Upon further investigation, it was established that parts were stripped from the inside of the vehicle. A screwdriver was also confiscated.
Due to the rampant theft in the area, K9 unit members continued to patrol in Forest Hill and on Thursday 26 January 2023, at approximately 22:45 while patrolling, they noticed two suspects busy removing wheels off a VW Amarok. When the suspects refused to succumbed to their request to come out, K9 Mufasa was released to search for them. One suspect, aged 23 was found hiding underneath a vehicle. The second suspect jumped over the fence and bolted. The members confiscated a cross wheel spanner, L shape wheel spanner, back pack, car jack and a hammer.
The suspects were detained on charges of theft from motor vehicle and trespassing.
Also on Wednesday 25 January 2023 at approximately 11:45, K9 unit members recovered a stolen white Mitshubishi in Sakwatsha Street, NU8 Motherwell. The vehicle was found abandoned. The vehicle was stolen during a business robbery on Tuesday, 24 January 2023 at approximately 15:00 in Kalusha Street, Ikamvelihle. The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
Both suspects will appear at the Gqeberha magistrate court soon.
