Grandmother admitted in hospital after allegedly raped by her grandson

THABONG – A grandson aged 37 will soon be brought before court for allegedly raping his 79-year-old grandmother.

The victim alleged that she has been staying alone for a month at her house in Thabong not knowing the whereabouts of her grandson who was staying with her.

On Sunday, 11 April 2021, at about 02:30, he arrived home and raped her. He threatened to kill her if she notified anyone about the incident.

As a result of injuries sustained during the ordeal, the elderly woman was admitted at Bongani Hospital.

The suspect is being detained and will appear in court on a charge of rape.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Police in the Free State, Major General Solly Lesia appeals to the community to take care of the elderly in their community. “It is shocking to learn about this act by someone close to the victim. The arrest of the perpetrator will ensure that he have his day in court,” Maj Genl Lesia said.
