Hawks arrest their own for theft and defeating the ends of justice allegations

PRETORIA – The National Head, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya welcomed the arrest of the two Warrant Officers by Serious Corruption Investigation team based in the Vaal Rand.

Warrant Officers Rapulane Levy Tlholoe (51) and Ndavheleseni Edward Musetha (53) attached to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court today on charges of theft and defeating the ends of justice following their arrest earlier the morning on 13 April 2021.

It is alleged that the duo was on duty in January this year when they attended to a cash-in-transit crime scene in the Langlaagte area, Johannesburg for investigation. They allegedly placed the scattered cash inside four forensic seal bags to book them at the police station. On arrival, allegations are that the suspects only submitted two sealed forensic bags.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects kept one torn sealed forensic bag with undisclosed amount of money in their vehicle. More cash was discovered allegedly inside the cubbyhole and later placed into another sealed bag to be submitted as evidence, with one sealed bag missing.

Warrants of arrest were issued for their apprehension and executed on Tuesday morning where they were successfully charged for theft and defeating the ends of justice.

“Although it is a difficult and disheartening situation to arrest your own, it is also necessary to do so when members are involved in serious crime as the DPCI members are expected to display integrity beyond reproach,” Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya.
