HAWKS welcome former MEC John Block and others judgement

The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Lieutenant General Ntlemeza has welcomed the judgement handed down by the Kimberley High Court against John Fikile Block (49), former MEC of Finance, Tourism and Economic Affairs and his business associate.

The former MEC along with Alfeus Christo Scholtz (60), CEO of Trifecta Group/Holdings, were found guilty of fraud and corruption in December 2015. These charges are related to their involvement in inflating prices on the lease agreement between them and the Northern Cape Social Development Department.

They will both serve 15 years imprisonment and additionally, a forfeiture order of R 2 million was made against John Block while R53 million confiscation was made against Scholtz and Trifecta.

The Hawks National Head, Lieutenant General Mthandazo Ntlemeza applauded the Hawks members who worked diligently during the lengthy investigation and ensured that corrupt officials are held liable for their actions and faced the full might of the law.

This shows that were are committed to work around the clock in fighting against the harm caused by corruption in our country. We hope that this will serve as a deterrent to all corrupt civil servant and that it is also indicative of the excellent relationship between the Hawks and the National Prosecuting Authority.
