HEI, Spectranet partner to combat child malnutrition

The Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving child health, said it had partnered Spectranet Ltd., an internet service provider, to combat child malnutrition in communities.

Mr Paschal Achunine, Executive Director at HEI, said this in a statement on Monday in Lagos.

He said the partnership was aimed at implementing a groundbreaking community-based intervention for acutely malnourished children, bringing hope and healing to the lives of vulnerable children and families.

He said malnutrition remained a pervasive issue affecting millions of children worldwide, hindering their growth, development and jeopardising their future.

Achunine noted that in response to the pressing challenge, HEI and Spectranet had joined hands to address child malnutrition at its root by providing vital support to those in need.

He said spectranet, known for its unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility, had pledged a donation of N1.1 million to support this life-saving initiative.

Achunine explained that the donation had been utilised judiciously by HEI to identify and assist 46 mothers and 50 children in three primary healthcare centres in Surulere, who were acutely malnourished.

“We are deeply honoured and excited to partner with Spectranet for this pivotal mission.

“Their dedication to creating positive change aligns perfectly with our vision of a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

“Together, we are taking significant strides towards breaking the vicious cycle of malnutrition and giving these children a chance at a brighter future,”Achunine said.

He explained that the community-based intervention provided the much-needed nutritional support, medical care and counseling to the affected families, creating an environment of hope and healing.

He noted that local healthcare professionals, trained by HEI worked tirelessly to implement tailored nutrition plans, ensuring each child received the personalised care they needed to recover and flourish.

According to the statement, Sapna Kewalramani, Executive Director at Spectranet Ltd. said: “We believe in the power of connectivity to drive change, and that goes beyond providing internet services.

“Through this partnership with Health Emergency Initiative, we are actively investing in the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

“Witnessing the positive impact of our collective efforts on these children’s lives is both heartwarming and humbling.

“The results of the project has been inspiring, with over 60 per cent of children responding remarkably to the care and support received.”

The executive director said families had expressed their gratitude, sharing stories of renewed hope and brighter future.

Kewalramani said the transformation in the children’s appearances were evident, reflecting the effect of adequate nutrition and compassionate care.

“We firmly believe that this partnership is only the beginning of a long-term commitment to combating child malnutrition and improving overall community health.

“Our collaboration with the Health Emergency Initiative and serves as a shining example of what can be achieved when organisations with shared values come together to address pressing social challenges,” Kewalramani said.
