Heroin worth more than a million rand recovered

KWAZULU-NATAL – Police officers from Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit and Provincial Organised Crime Unit continued with their mandate to root out the drug trade and protect the citizens of the province. That was supported by an operation conducted yesterday in the Bellair policing precinct which led to the arrest of a 38-year-old suspect and the recovery of heroin.
Police proceeded to Wakesleigh Road in Bellair after complaints of drug-related activities in the area were received. One kilogram of pure heroin and 35 000 capsules of heroin were recovered from the suspect. He was swiftly arrested and taken to Bellair police station for detention. He will be appearing in the Durban Magistrates Court soon, facing a charge of possession of drugs. The recovered drugs have an estimated street value of R1 450 000-00.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula hailed the arrest and commended the dedication of the arresting officers to remove drugs from our streets.
