Hijacking suspect arrested, firearm seized

DURBAN An intelligence driven operation was conducted yesterday which led to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect. Police officers from the EThekwini Inner North cluster pounced on a suspect at his home in D Section, KwaDabeka. The suspect was sought for a number of robbery cases on business premises.

The suspect was found in possession of a pistol with six rounds of ammunition and vehicle keys. He was immediately arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Further police investigations revealed that the firearm was stolen in Pinetown a year ago. A concealed vehicle was found in the vicinity of the suspect’s home and the matching car keys were found in his possession. Police discovered that the vehicle was hijacked from the Marianhill policing area earlier this month.

The suspect will be appearing in the Pinetown Magistrates Court soon on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, possession of suspected stolen property and carjacking. He will also be profiled to establish if he can be linked to other robberies in the province.
