DURBAN – Trio Crime Detectives and the Tracing Team in Phoenix embarked on an intelligence driven operation on 22 March 2020, searching for hijacking suspects.

The suspect was spotted at his place of residence and was arrested after police monitored his movements at his residence. The investigation led police to Empangeni where the hijacked vehicle was recovered.

It is alleged that on 18 March 2020 at 09:30, the complainant was stationery in his vehicle with a passenger at Brooksfarm when he was hijacked of his Renault Sandero by three unknown males armed with firearms and a knife. They were both assaulted and later dumped on the side of the road. A case of carjacking was opened at Phoenix police station for investigation.

The suspect was charged for carjacking and he appeared in the Phoenix Magistrate’s Court on 23 March 2020. He was remanded into custody until 30 March 2020 for further investigation. Police are still searching for the remaining suspects. Investigation to ascertain if he can be linked to other hijacking cases in the area is continuing. Source: South African Police Service
