Hitman to Face Former World Champ

Paulus ‘Hitman” Moses will face a new opponent in South Africa’s former WBF super featherweight champion Malcolm Klassen when he defends his WBO international lightweight title at the Independence Boxing Bonanza at Ramatex Hall on 20 March.
Moses was originally supposed to fight the undefeated Carlos Portillo of Paraguay, but at a press conference in Windhoek on Wednesday, Moses’ trainer and promoter Nestor Tobias said that the south American had pulled out of the fight.
“Portillo had family problems so he had to withdraw from the fight. We managed to replace him with Malcolm Klassen from South Africa, who is a former world champion and will be a tough opponent,” he said.
Klassen has a professional record of 28 wins, of which 15 were via knockout, six losses and two draws.
He won the IBF world super featherweight title in 2006 and the WBF world super featherweight title in 2011, but he lost both titles in his first defence. In 2013 he challenged for the IBO super featherweight title but lost that fight, while he won his last fight in September last year on a fourth round technical knockout.
Moses said he did not have much to say but was ready for the fight.
“I would like to invite everyone to come and join us on 20 March to celebrate our Independence and to come and enjoy top class boxing. I don’t have much to say, but I’m always in shape and I’m ready for the fight,” he said.
There will be a total of nine fights on the bill, featuring some of Namibia’s top fighters.
Vikapita Meroro, who will face Omour Mzungu of Tanzania in an international cruiserweight fight over 10 rounds, also did not have much to say, but he didn’t mince his words.
“Come the 20th of March you will see one of the greatest knockouts that I will deliver,” he said.
Julius Indongo, who is still undefeated after 16 fights will defend his WBO Africa junior welterweight title against Ibrahimu Class of Tanzania, who has only lost one of 13 professional fights.
Tyson Ushona will make a return to the ring against Tshepo Mandawe of South Africa over eight rounds, after losing his previous fight against Dario Pucheta of Argentina in October last year.
Tobias said the defeat was a setback but he believed that Ushona could reach the top again.
“That defeat was a setback for Tyson, but it was also a wake-up call. He has been training hard in the gym and come 20 March, Tyson will shine again. It’s now up to him to prove that he can reach the top again but I believe in him,” he said.
Immanuel Naidjala will also be making a comeback after he relinquished his WBO Africa bantamweight title to South Africa’s Gideon Buthelezi in December last year.
Naidjala, who has only been defeated twice in 22 fights will take on Robert Kachiza of Malawi who has a record of nine wins and five defeats, over eight rounds.
The other fights on the bill are between Jafet Utoni and Sibusiso Twani of South Africa, Martin Haikali and Nkosinathi Ntsangase of South Africa, Walter Kuutondokwa and Charles Masanjo of Malawi and Immanuel Mungandjela and Tommy Hango of Namibia.
Tobias said they had reduced the ticket prices to make it affordable for as many people as possible. General tickets will cost N$30 per person while VIP tickets will cost N$200. Tickets are available via Computicket at Checkers and Shoprite, at the Nestor Sunshine Academy office or at the Namibia Boxing Control Board.
