Home Affairs Extends Operational Hours for Upcoming Elections

Pretoria:The Department of Home Affairs has announced an extension of operational hours at all its front offices to facilitate access to identity documents for eligible voters ahead of the Local Government Elections scheduled for 4 November 2026.

According to South African Government News Agency, the extended hours are intended to allow voters to collect their identity documents or apply for identity documents and Temporary Identity Certificates (TICs). From 2 to 4 November 2026, Home Affairs offices will be open from 8 am to 6 pm to accommodate these services.

On Election Day, 4 November 2026, the offices will be operational from 7 am to 9 pm, aligning with the Electoral Commission of South Africa’s (IEC) operational schedule. The Department of Home Affairs urges South Africans who have applied for identity documents to collect them in order to vote.

The department has also called upon stakeholder forums, community structures, and leaders to collaborate with communities and encourage eligible voters to secure their documentation before election day.
