Inanda armed robbers due in court

DURBAN – It is alleged that on 12 May 2020, the victim was stationary at Inanda Newtown A, whilst his crew was offloading bread at a local supermarket. At this time, two armed men showed up and approached them.
At gunpoint, one of the men tried to open the driver’s door. The driver and the suspect wrestled until the firearm fell on the ground. The suspect managed to steal an amount of cash. The truck driver sped off and heard gunshots emanating from the crime scene. Whilst driving he flagged police officers who were conducting crime prevention operations. He informed the police officers of what transpired and the police drove back to the crime scene. A search was conducted and with the assistance of the local community which resulted in the suspects being traced to a local clinic.
The suspects were found in possession of a 9mm pistol with three rounds of ammunition. Police investigation revealed that the injured suspect was shot by his accomplice whilst trying to shoot at the truck driver. The suspects aged 20 and 27 were charged for armed robbery, attempted murder, possession of firearm and ammunition. The injured suspect is under police guard in hospital whilst the other is appearing today in the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the arrest of the armed robbers.
