ICASA launches the Consumer Advisory Panel to advise on consumer protection matters

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has established a Consumer Advisory Panel (CAP) to advise it on all consumer-related issues within broadcasting, telecommunications and postal services. The CAP will, among others, reach out to consumers, so as to understand their concerns, recommend what consumer protection research to be undertaken, and promote consumer interests.

The CAP, comprising of 11 members, nominated through a public process, will serve the general South African public including persons with disabilities, women, youth, senior citizens and people living in underserviced areas with regards to ICTs.

This is a true reflection that ICASA is taking consumer protection seriously and to the next level. And CAP is an important milestone for us because we will receive first-hand information that will assist us to better execute our consumer protection mandate and ensure that we indeed live up to our vision of ensuring that we regulate in the public interest, says Councillor Botlenyana Mokhele.

CAP will be officially launched on 09 March 2018, at The Capital Moloko Hotel situated at 160 Helen Road, Sandton from 09h00.
